I know that sound like a stupid question, and we can find many answer on google. However, i've been trying for one hour and it still not working.

The question is prety simple, i'm coding on visual studio code on Mac OS. And i want to instert tab when i press tab, and not 4 spaces.
It it supposes to be very simple: Go on 'code'-'preferences'-'users stting' And add: // Insert spaces when pressing Tab. 'editor.insertSpaces': false Into: settings.json However i have no clue why, but this is not working.
(I've save it, close visual, reboot mac, still not working) Does anyone has any clues to help me? Thanks a lot. (I've save it, close visual, reboot mac, still not working) - One thing is missing - did you try it with a completely new file?;) I just tried it, had the same issue and almost thought it is a bug, but it seems to be expected behavior as there is another setting editor.detectIndentation which is true by default. If the indentation is detected then the detected value takes precedence over your defined setting.
At first this seemed odd as others also reported in a GitHub. But the analogy with CR/CRLF in this makes sense. So as a quick fix you could set editor.detectIndentation to false or convert your existing indentation to tabs so that the next time you open the file the proper detection is done.
Ever since I downloaded the update for the Office program, the tab key is not indenting my documents.I have attempted to search solutions, and the only suggestion I've found is to make sure the 'left/right' indent box it checked in the auto-correct menu. I have checked on this and it is checked.
Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution? I have tried closing the program and reopening, checking and unchecking the box, and nothing is working. I use this program for notes, and it's really frustrating to not have an indent option!! I use bulleted lists and it no longer moves the bullet point in.
For Normal Text: The Tab & Backspace only increase/decrease indentation of a paragraph which already exists. IOW, Pressing Tab at the start of a new paragraph does not indent the paragraph, it simply tabs in to the first default.5' tab stop. With the insertion point at the beginning of the 1st sentence Tab sets a first line indent at the.5' tab stop.
If the insertion point is at the start of any other line of the paragraph (or if you select the entire paragraph) pressing Tab sets a left indent indents the entire paragraph to the.5' tab stop. A left indent also can be applied when starting a new paragraph or in an existing paragraph by using the Control+Shift+M keyboard shortcut. That keystroke works regardless of whether the Tabs and backspace set left indent preference is checked. For Bullets/Numbers: The AutoFormat As You Type boxes should be checked for those feature to enable starting new lists.
You still need to type the starting bullet or number followed by Tab or a space, but the indentation doesn't occur until you type the text & press return. Pressing return applies the bullet/numbers formatting. In an existing list, Tab/Backspace demote/promote the item one level at a time.
If not familiar with them you might want to consider using either Outline View or Notebook Layout View. Have a look at a summary of each: Also: Or you may want to consider Please mark HELPFUL or ANSWERED as appropriate to keep list as clean as possible ☺ Regards, Bob J.
